Art & Soccer Practice

Mediums used today include colored corn syrup, shaving cream, yogurt and mashed potatoes.  This last picture is very Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
The penny is huge on him, but anything to be out there with his team.

New Window, Soccer, Swim, Art Day

A very busy day.

Last year I had a difficult time choosing just one photo a day specifically for this reason. We cram a lot into each and every day.
First stop, swimming lessons, at the City Gym and Pool.

Next, art class at the Community Center.

Back to the house to check the progress of the new window.

We'd been planning this new addition for months.  Glad it's finally happening.  The living room was so dark before.  All the natural light is fantastic, as is the extended view of the backyard.

Finally, Rett helping out at soccer practice.

The big boys did have fun trying to see who could do the most push ups with him on their back.  Jake, Griffin and Liam had the most success.  No easy task now that Rett weighs a solid 45 pounds.

Artwork by Rett

Rett's artistic interpretation of Liam playing his guitar.  The top drawing is of the guitar itself.

Valentine Art Class

Painting and sticking the tissue paper was fun...but then he discovered drizzling...there's tons of decoupage at the bottom of the vase.
Lovely red frames.

Wipeboard

Another rainy day activity.  He is doing an excellent job drawing the scallions (the bad guys) from his Veggie Tales coloring book...by the way the drawing of the machine gun and the crazy thing on the far left of the board were all Liam.  Thanks Brother!

Artwork from the Lion's Den

The photography bug is catching. The kid camera from last Christmas is perfect for this.

Being very careful to get just the right shot.

He's so excited about his skills.

This is what he was photographing. His own artistic impression of Daniel and the Lion's Den, as told by Veggie Tales. The Red represents the den and the green guys on the left are the scallions (the bad guys) the larger green folks are King Darius and Daniel.

At least he knows the story? ...just with produce instead of people.

Science Experiment #325

Rett was very proud of his contraption.

No doubt preparing for the always looming Science Fair.

I really wish this mythical event would take place so we could end the experiments.

"The Sun"

Rett's first masterpiece with his new easel, entitled "The Sun."

Art Easel

His friend has an art easel and he's been begging for one.

We went over to Ikea today to pickup this one, some brushes, paper and paint.

He's explaining to me all the things he's going to paint with his new equipment, it's a very serious face....also notice I have him out on the front porch for this art exercise, not in the house.

I am anticipating needing to hose the area off afterward.

Art from Yesterday

Time to paint the clay pieces which were fired a couple of weeks ago.

Rett was very careful and precise about painting, so different than the last time he took this class.

New Artwork Part Two

Here's the piece we got for the living room.

Rett is using his pretend level to check and make sure we got it right.

Artful Creations

Once again there were several different stations to choose from at Art class.

Rett spent the entire time making these little foam doo-dads.

This was not a very popular one with the other kids so Miss April, the art teacher, let him take some of the supplies home to make more...oh goody.

New Artwork for the New House

This photo just doesn't do it justice!

Now, where to hang it? It's over the fireplace here, but I don't think that will be it's final resting spot...

Artful pumpkins

Time to decorate our pumpkins...well funkins, fake pumpkins, so our artful endeavors can be displayed year after year. Rett's has a cape, mine has purple feathers, Dr T's is supposed to be Jimmy Hendrix, but Rett insists it looks more like Pa Grape, from Veggie Tales!

Art

There were lots of art centers to choose from today but painting with the golf ball was his favorite.

We came away with several lovely pieces.

Just hope he doesn't decide to try and use some of the golf balls at home in this fashion, that would be just my luck.

Clay Day

Daddy is so great with clay. Rett made lots of pieces, his favorite was one he called "bread." He didn't use a cookie cutter for it, but shaped it with his own hands, then proceeded to vigorously use the pizza cutter on it. When he was done it looked like a small loaf of bread.

Preschool Picassos

So good to be back at art class. Miss April had the kids finger painting with colored corn syrup, yogurt, shaving cream and mashed potatoes. A tactile delight!
