Throw Back Thursday

Today, I finally understand what #tbt stands for.  Truly, I did not know before now.

Which makes me feel a bit slow.

I am however, comforted by the knowledge that sometime, in the near future, my dear husband will ask what tbt means, and I will have the answer.  *snicker*

Here is my contribution for Throw Back Thursday:

December 1994
Dr T sitting in my dad's 1964 convertible corvette.
The house I grew up in is in the background.
We had just gotten engaged a few days before.

All my digital picture files are in order by year.  This is the only one in the 1994 folder; more motivation to work on that scanning project.

What other hashtags should I be aware of?

Saturday Morning Gifts

Our first morning with the Mazzer, we had Kaytie and Cousin Jen over for coffee.

Cousin Jen busted out her long dormant latte art skills, which seemed quite superb to me, but then, you know the latte art I have had in my life recently.

AND Kaytie brought us a gift!  She noticed we were missing an album from our collection.  So sweet!

I snuck a few shots of Dr T, shh, don't tell.  He's quite camera shy lately. Luckily, his defenses were down, not having had his morning cup of jo yet.  Heehee.

Great sounding album and eye catching cover art too! *swoon*

Ping Pong Prowess

This is at a girlfriend's house after the scout meeting on Friday.

First, she tempted me to stay and hang out with a glass of wine.

Then an hour later, asks if I know how to play ping pong.

Umm, I suck at ping pong.

We have a table, but I am the worst player out of anyone I know.

At my house, I am regularly slaughtered....actually, that would imply that I am invited to play a real game.

No score is kept with me around.

My boys talk about how they have to "go easy on Mom".

Truly, it's  just a chance to tell me how to hold the paddle and let me hit it back and forth over the net.  Serving on me, is not an option, far too difficult for my skill level.

As, we are starting, my friend tells me how much she loves to play this game; she routinely schools her neighbors, her husband, anyone who will play her!

Knowing so little, she has to teach me how to keep score and when to serve, which is every 5 by the way.  I find, I can, in fact, hit the ball.  All the instruction at home has paid off.

It was a close match; she only beat me by 2 points!!

I am SO playing with the wrong crowd.

Moments like this keep me grounded.  Reminding me, my house of perfectionistic-overachievers, who do not like to do anything half way, are not the norm, but the exception.  We have a German made table (for better bounce), competition balls (orange, not white) and there are individuals in my family who have their own personal paddles (superior grip)...with matching leather carrying cases.  I kid you not.

Dr T learned how to play table tennis at the rec center growing up.  Don't let that fool you.  He often ran into the man who coached the Olympic Chinese table tennis team back in the 80's.  The gentleman was kind enough to show an eager little blond haired boy how to execute a killer serve.  Something my husband has practiced for hours over the course of his lifetime.  Knowledge also passed on to our sons. So yeah.

Today was a much needed lesson in perspective.  I sometimes forget I am surrounded by rockstars.

Alright, who wants to play me?

House Measurements

Went to see Kiki and John's new place.  They are planning on making lots of changes.  These will be refered to as the "before" pictures.
The midget tub/shower was my favorite.  Maybe the previous occupants bathed their dogs at home...or perhaps they were obsessive feet washers?
Say good bye to the kitchen.  It will never look the same again. This picture represents many decades.  See if you can spot them all.
Taking measurements in the bedroom.  This room has so much natural light.  It's really great in person.
Hardwood floor underneath.  One of the benefits of an older home. Yay!

Vroom, vroom!

Once upon a time Dr T was supposed to get a Harley. This was back in November of 2004. He had taken all the necessary classes, picked out exactly what he wanted and days before the transaction was a done deal found out we were having a baby and got a mini-van instead.

Flash forward to present day. We went to a family BBQ yesterday. Where we saw, amongst others, Uncle Mike and Aunt Beckie. Tim always asks Uncle Mike about his motorcycles and rides he's taken, etc. Uncle Mike mentions that he's not riding quite so much anymore. He tells Tim he can borrow his Harley for an extended amount of time if he wants. After a couple months of using it if he wants to keep it they can make some sort of payment deal...

Tim is so excited about the prospect of a bike! Uncle Mike calls today and says he has some good news and some bad news. Bad news; the Harley isn't going to work out, he wants to keep it. Good news; it's not the only bike he owns so he wants Tim to try out the custom "chopper" instead!

I've rarely seen Dr. T this ecstatic about something, literally jumping up and down with anticipation! It's like seeing a little boy who gets exactly what he wants on Christmas morning.

I just want to take a quick moment to say "thanks" to all those who have aided Tim in getting these toys; the golf hook ups, pinball machines, foosball table, ping-pong accessories, motorcycles, etc. I mean where would I be without you? Probably best not to ponder that too long.

Regalia Arrives

Dr. T's academic regalia arrived today!  Top to bottom is: the doctoral tam and tassel, gown with colors that signify his emphasis and academic hood with school colors.  Yay!

After Christmas Party

Not great pictures...but they are the only ones I took today.  A fun time with a white-elephant-esk gift exchange with all 45 in attendance.  Delicious food from Maggianos and mini-cheesecakes from Costco.

Someone's Been Using My Camera

Yeah, clearly not taken by me...oh and there are tons more where these came from, including some golf clubs, up close, and some wires?

Artful pumpkins

Time to decorate our pumpkins...well funkins, fake pumpkins, so our artful endeavors can be displayed year after year. Rett's has a cape, mine has purple feathers, Dr T's is supposed to be Jimmy Hendrix, but Rett insists it looks more like Pa Grape, from Veggie Tales!

Clay Day

Daddy is so great with clay. Rett made lots of pieces, his favorite was one he called "bread." He didn't use a cookie cutter for it, but shaped it with his own hands, then proceeded to vigorously use the pizza cutter on it. When he was done it looked like a small loaf of bread.

Antenna comes down

This picture was from the other day but I had to include it.

We'd been meaning to get this antenna off the roof since the day we moved in. When Dr T got up there, in full toolbelt I might add, he found it wasn't even attached!

One strong wind and that thing could have flown down onto someone, scary!

Noodle Fight

So ever since I purchased noodles for the pool I've been telling the kids they are not allowed to hit each other with them...Dr T is in the pool for 5 minutes and he starts a full on hitting WAR with the noodles, the boys loved it, of course.

Now the rule is "Noodle wars are only allowed when Dr. Moyers is in the pool"...works for me.

Tournament Plaque

Dr T was invited to play in a tournament with a friend.  He won, and as a reward he gets to keep this plaque for a whole year!

Uggh, where are we supposed to put this?

He's won a lot of crystal bowls and vases, champions cups and prizes over the years, but those were ours to keep and therefore do with as we chose...This just feels like a bad babysitting gig. I'm secretly hoping he doesn't try to defend his title next year or we'll never get rid of this thing.

Picnic Table

This is a bad picture, I know.

I should have told this story on July 3rd when it happened, but I didn't take the picture until now; So we opted not to get the expensive patio furniture right off the bat, but instead decided to buy and stain a picnic table ($49 at Home Depot).

Dr T, being the handy guy that he is, decided to get the disk sander out and sand down the edges, it makes it look so much better, he was almost finished, when working on the edge of this seat the sander caught in between the two planks and then shot out at him.

Despite his attempt to do the hot-coals-dance, it zipped across his foot and took out a disk of skin about 2 inches in diameter!

It's bloody and oozing and he won't be wearing shoes anytime soon.

Drainage

Another pool picture?!

I know, but had to show one of what it looks like drained and scraped of all the old tile and plaster...more pictures as they work on it the next couple of days.

Grad Swag

Just a few of the many graduation items. In the same picture as the diploma is Dr T's bound copy of his work from the program, hard to see, but it's huge.

So cool!

Symposium

All graduating Doctoral candidates had to present at the symposium the day before.

Here is Dr T presenting a PowerPoint of his project.

Essentially he used all his research on Emotional Intelligence, created and taught a Masters level class on the uses of EI in Clinical Psychology.

Go Baby!

Graduation Hat

Dr T's Grad students decided to get themselves these hats to wear at their graduation.

During class tonight they presented one to Tim, since he just finished his Doctorate.

Making the Cut

Dr T placed in the top 25 in his tournament.

This picture is for those of you who can decipher a score card.
