Approval from the city!
We made a few changes: no pitched roof for the garage and French doors out the back of the bonus room instead of windows.
The electricians came by on Saturday. Only two weeks till they get started on the new electrical panel.
Super excited to move forward on our project!
Here's a picture of the grass plot next to the house where the new bonus room will go.

Our Very First Plans
In our nearly two decades together Dr. T and I have shared a lot of firsts. In the beginning of our marriage it happened with regular frequency. To the point where we didn't take too much notice. Well now, it's actually been awhile since we've had something come up. But this week such an event occurred. He came home and said "It's our very first plans!" Architectural plans, that is, the real deal.
Yesterday, Dr. T and our architect (that doesn't sound snooty at all) took our plans to the city. Hopefully, we'll hear back soon with approval to add on a game room to the first floor of our house....cause I'd like to have my garage back.

Accountability
I really think there needs to be some accountability in order to make this project a success. And one of my goals this year is to be better at embracing my shortcomings. So let's begin with the before pictures.
As things are removed or organized I will post the changes. Then eventually we can move to the redesign. That will be the reward for all this hard work.
Also, I'm feeling slightly compelled to show how beautiful the rest of my house is...and my garage too, which is more of a game room. Since all other areas are pristine, the burden of odds and ends falls on my "office".... I'm pretty sure there are some returns in this giant pile so I'm going to start with those.

Finished Wall
So now you can see where it's NOT painted. Gonna have to finish that.
But it's mostly done and the adjusted lighting fixtures are just fabulous. Yay!

More Painting
I finally found the time to paint the exterior wall where the new window was installed. The inside has been done for a bit, but I just haven't gotten around to working on the exterior.
It was night by the time I finished. Actually, the area around the lights still needs to be done, but the lights will have to be removed for that. So as it turns out the evening picture, with the lights on, masks the unfinished areas.

Vacuum
This is me attempting to fix the vacuum cleaner.
Don't laugh.
One of the belts broke. I bought replacement ones.
I just couldn't figure out where the broken one was.
After taking nearly the whole thing apart I found them underneath, but I really did look there first.
So now I know how to fix a vacuum. I guess that skill will come in handy in another 15 years.

All the Painting is Done
Remember the window we had put in? Everything covered in plastic, dust everywhere.
Well, as of today, the whole room is painted.
We ordered the blinds the day after the window was done. They've been laying out in the garage just waiting for the painting to be completed. I know I said I was going to do it the very next day...but, stuff came up.
So here we are twelve days later and the room is finally put back together. For some people in my family twelve days feels like a lifetime. But I feel like, wow, it only took me 12 days to get it to look like this!? That was FAST!
One more home project can be checked off the list.

House Measurements
Went to see Kiki and John's new place. They are planning on making lots of changes. These will be refered to as the "before" pictures.
The midget tub/shower was my favorite. Maybe the previous occupants bathed their dogs at home...or perhaps they were obsessive feet washers?
Say good bye to the kitchen. It will never look the same again. This picture represents many decades. See if you can spot them all.
Taking measurements in the bedroom. This room has so much natural light. It's really great in person.
Hardwood floor underneath. One of the benefits of an older home. Yay!

New Window, Soccer, Swim, Art Day
A very busy day.
Last year I had a difficult time choosing just one photo a day specifically for this reason. We cram a lot into each and every day.
First stop, swimming lessons, at the City Gym and Pool.
Next, art class at the Community Center.
Back to the house to check the progress of the new window.
We'd been planning this new addition for months. Glad it's finally happening. The living room was so dark before. All the natural light is fantastic, as is the extended view of the backyard.
Finally, Rett helping out at soccer practice.
The big boys did have fun trying to see who could do the most push ups with him on their back. Jake, Griffin and Liam had the most success. No easy task now that Rett weighs a solid 45 pounds.

Vacuum
No, I didn't take this picture with the intent of blogging about it...but it seems I didn't take any other pictures today, so here it goes.
My Hoover vacuum needs a new belt. I took a picture of the serial and model numbers so I would have them in my phone. I looked online.
The belts themselves are cheap. Only about $3.99, but then you add the shipping and it's over ten dollars. I ended up finding a local vac and sew repair place that sells them for $8.
I should be thankful that I found a place locally that has them, but instead I feel a teensie bit ripped off.

Massive Book Case & Electrical Problem Solved February 12. 2010
The solution to the electrical problem was found after I removed all items off this enormous bookcase. Wouldn't you know, it was the outlet behind here that was causing all the problems. We're lucky it didn't catch fire.
Ding-Dong
Ever since we moved in, 7 month ago, there have been doorbell wires sticking out of the wall...Dr T figured out how to get them working again!
That's the good news.
The bad news is the doorbell choices are awful.
This was the best we could find to match our metal lights but it isn't the right proportion to screw into the rock...hmmm?

The Games
Rett and I sorted through the misc game box and matched up all the missing cards with their decks...there were tons, mostly in baggies from before we moved.
Liam and the big boys played Risk all day. I love when they play board games instead of video games!

I'm Redecorating...
The whole area where the carpet is up was soaking wet this morning.
Had to pull it up to find where the water was coming in the house...right below the window...now using the shop-vac to vacuum the carpet and pad, over and over and over again.. :(
In exchange for missing Bible Study and letting me spend hours working on getting the water up, I promised Rett I'd take him back to the McDonald's play place today!!!

Construction
As a result of living in an 1100sq ft townhouse for more than a decade we are always looking for extra storage space. Our new place has vaulted ceilings, so no attic. But Tim realized our Master walk in closet, which was an add on from the room across the hallway, had a low ceiling and thus there must be space above it. Today was the day they cut out the hole.
Yay! Now all the Christmas decorations have a place to go.

Backyard Photoshoot

In hindsight, I'm not sure why exactly I took these backyard pictures, possibly because there are no toy trucks, garbage cans, bikes, skateboards, soccer cleats or pool toys strewn about. That actually would be reason enough to take a photo. There are no other pictures on my camera for this day so....umm....presenting clean yard!

Antenna comes down
This picture was from the other day but I had to include it. We'd been meaning to get this antenna off the roof since the day we moved in. When Dr T got up there, in full toolbelt I might add, he found it wasn't even attached!
One strong wind and that thing could have flown down onto someone, scary!

It's Painted
Looking at this photo just reminds me how much I LOVE my husband. He spent the last three days filling holes and sanding in preparation for having a friend come over and lacquer it with a big air-compressor-type-spray gun.
I just wish I would have taken a picture when there was plastic on all sides and hanging from the ceiling, I guess I was too busy trying to keep the kids outside and away from the smell, wooo!
They finished painting just a few hours before Bunko started. So glad it's done.
